Seabird Saturdays

Seabird Saturdays will be held the last Saturday of every month between the hours of 9:00am to 1:00pm from May through September, 2024. For this event, Audubon's Seabird Institute will be on site at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, 3115 Bristol Rd, New Harbor, ME, 04554. With a spotting scope and loaner optics available, park visitors can learn how to use these observation tools and how to identify the seabirds seen from the park’s rocky shore during this free program.

Friendly Feathers – Kids will learn how important feathers are to birds and especially seabirds that need to withstand the elements.

Susan Beebe, a local artist, will be at the center to assist and guide participants in a hands of, full sensory art activity. This activity is suitable for all ages and all supplies will be provided, including photos of local birds. A small fee of $5/participant is required.
Birding In Bremen

With the help of a seasoned birder, learn some of the more common species around us and how to identify them. Limited pairs of extra binoculars are available, and participants will be provided with lessons on how best to use them. If you have your own please bring them. These walks are free but donations are appreciated. Please sign up so we can contact you if anything changes due to weather or other safety concerns. Limited to 15 participants. Migration Destination – Why do some birds migrate? Why do some birds live in the same place all year long? Kids will learn why some birds migrate and will play Migration Headache which will emphasize the importance of preserving natural areas for migration.

Don Lyons, Director of Conservation Science for Audubon’s Seabird Institute, will provide an update on the development of wind energy in the Gulf of Maine and the efforts of the Seabird Institute to minimize impacts on Maine’s seabirds. Nesting puffins, terns, and other seabird species have been tracked in recent years to better understand the areas of the Gulf that are most important.

The explore.org live cameras act as a method of community engagement and help foster citizen science initiatives for nature lovers all around the world!

Visitor Center
The Project Puffin Visitor Center (PPVC) is located at 311 Main Street in downtown Rockland, Maine. The center opened its doors officially on July 1, 2006.
